Team Zoo 2008 - Philadelphia Zoo Softball

Photos

Even lovelier action photos from the June 24, 2008 game against Franklin Institute. We got creamed 33-13, but it was 7-7 for about 2 minutes! We actually played reasonably well. For us. Pictures taken variously by Chris Oberlin (most at-bats), Martha Vaca (field action), Doug Hunt (etc).

Doug, warm-ups. Righteous right arm.

Ken, Joe, Amy. All business. This is obviously early in the game when we are not down by 25 runs.

CO in left, while DJ Mikey B at 3rd practices his scratching technique.

Todd. Doug. Super excited.

Great shot of the 5-finger change-up, Ken's best pitch. Either that or he's purposefully blocking his handsome mug from the camera. Amy is less modest.

Joe. Joe Cool.

Bill, Doug (with leather sun-block), Amy.

Moments later, Bill has not moved one inch and the ball has set Doug's shoes on fire. Amy is amused.

Todd, whose shirt says Philadelphia Zoo but whose hat says Denver Zoo. Which team you playin' for, dude?!

Chris O'Berlin, our Irish left fielder.

CO exposes painfully pale thighs and Todd with the back-up.

Ken gets profiled and Tara... is yawning?!

Bill nicely reels in the rare base hit to right field! Part of Doug wants to receive the cut-off throw.

Todd attempts to chase down yet another gapper to left-center...

But it requires assistance from CO, who gloves it to Doug...

And then Doug painfully takes a shot at getting the guy at the plate. Nice throw, Doog. Safe, though - yet another Franklin homer.

These are a couple of really sweet shots of Todd trying to get under an extra long fly ball and his subsequent throw back into the infield - that damn thing almost went into the other field next door. Great shots of the ball in flight. Nicely done, Mathavaca!

This is the tail end (pun intended) of Ken superbly running down a pop-up for a nice catch. Mike & Tara watch in awe.

People make the best faces when they swing the bat. What you lookin' at, doofus? Keep your eye on the ball! Mike is already watching another game, because this one is way over.

Did I say people? I meant AMY makes the BEST faces when she swings the bat.

Bridget looks downright normal. Bill awaits.

Bill leans into it. Base hit.

The Law, stoic as ever, calmly gets another hit. Then he totally tore up a leg muscle on the base path and left the game. And is now totally on the DL. Amy and Doug are totally in the background.

Amy again. What did I say about those faces? Doug loves 'em, too.

Bridget, about to swing at a ball twice the height of her. But she really means it.

Todd blurrily digs in and nails a pitch probably too low for a gosh darn triple! Awesome. Mike awaits with THE HAMMER.

Mike looks like he's about to spit on me but he totally got an RBI on that swing.

Joe is still cool at the plate, but he fouled that one off.

And he swings at this? And you thought Bridget's was high? Obviously he should have went with THE HAMMER, which idles on the fence, lonely.

Tara, our resident southpaw, with too many Franklin hangers-on effing up the background.

Mike, getting another RBI (with THE HAMMER!), from a way-close angle... keeping the whole bench in the frame for this one - Amy, Martha, Bill, (Laura), Jenna, Bridget, Law (icing the leg), and then Joe and Tara down the line. Ken and Todd are on base, Doug is coaching 1st, and I'm taking the shot. That's all of us.

This is just me. Thank Doug.
