When the first snow has fallen
and the ground begins to freeze
I'll still be your one and only
and you can write it down
If the last person around you
turns their back on you in need
I'll be your white knight on a steed
you can write it down
you can write that down
just write it down

You can write it in ink
you can chisel it in stone
you can scrawl it in blood
you can carve it in bone
if you believe me now
youíll believe me then
I donít want us to lose
so Iíll fight Ďtil we win

And this... I can do
Always be the one you need
this I will promise you

I hope you hear what I'm saying
I beg of you to believe
it is you I won't deceive
you can write it down
you can write that down
just write it down

You can write it in ink
you can chisel it in stone
you can scrawl it in blood
you can carve it in bone
if you believe me now
youíll believe me then
I donít want us to lose
so Iíll fight Ďtil we win
and I won't hold it in

'Cause I need you
I will bleed to
and I would fall down
break both of my knees
only for you

You can write it in ink
you can chisel it in stone
you can scrawl it in blood
you can carve it in bone
do you believe me now
please believe me then
I donít want us to lose
so Iíll fight Ďtil we win

And this... I know I can do
Always be the one you need
this I will promise you

Background:
Lyrics: I got the initial idea for this (which was just the title and the first four bars of the chorus) while cleaning up lemur poo at my job. I called my answering machine and left myself a message with a slight vocal arrangement and then it sat around for a couple months until I got the music, and then figured out it could fit and wrote the rest of the lyrics around the tune. One of the rare songs where I sing the chorus 3 times, unchanged. It's about making a promise to my girl. Reassurance.
Music: I had the simple and brief verse riff from just some random jam and kept playing it over and over and over until I had something that was worth working off of that riff. There were absolutely no words in mind until I had the music completely finished (which happened mostly at Steph's crib on an overnighter) - perhaps for the first time ever? Maybe a little over 3:30 long.
