The Songs : Up & Down

*Finished 2/99*
Music (7-8/98, 2/99) Words (7/98-2/99)

Sometimes I feel like I'm manic-depressive
and I know my emotions can get the best of me
but when you think you've found something so impressive
your eyes widen at the endless possibilities

I'm having hard times
slowing down my mind
my blood's about to spill
I really need to chill

When you get way, way up
you come way, way down
there's no other way around it
you just get pushed around

When you know you're right
that's when you're sure you're wrong
every time you think you found it
it's always so far gone

I see my dreams fading away like dust
even though everything seems so right
'cuz when my time is taken, I get shaken up
the ends and means will always prepare to fight

Man, I feel helpless
I know I'm gonna wreck this
it's just too much
my head's about to bust

When you get way, way up
you come way, way down
there's no other way around it
you just get pushed around

When you know you're right
that's when you're sure you're wrong
every time you think you found it
it's always so far gone

If you go way, way up
you must come way, way down
your head's up in the skyline
while your heart's dragged to the ground

When you know it's alright
that's when everything goes wrong
I thought I finally hit the end
but still waiting after so long

Background:
Music : This jammy jam is comprised of a few different licks that were conjured up separate from each other, but fit together nicely in the end. At the time, the music to this song was probably the most "intricate" of anything I'd written. It's pretty fun to play. Although, it's pretty basic in forumula : intro, main riff, bridge, chorus, main riff, bridge, chorus, end jam. Check that - I've also included another part to the song. A jam I once called "It's All Relative" (a two-lick guitar riff that never really had lyrics) is now included (albeit in a lower key or octave or something) in this tune. I think it really makes the song more *complete*. I think. The progression looks like this now : intro, main riff, bridge, chorus, breakdown, main riff, bridge, chorus, breakdown w/end jam. This song runs around 3:45 or up to 4 min long, depending on my jammy mood.
Lyrics : This one also had no words prior to the event that led to their inspiration. They're about a recurring problem I have with getting too excited for my own good. In this case, I had a date with a girl I really liked, but it fell through and subsequently the entire relationship that once looked so promising completely fell apart. Sometimes, I tend to put too much emphasis on looking to the future than letting things develop, and I can get way ahead of myself. Yeah, I'm working on it... I finally finished the lyrics in very early Feb of '99. I took out some extra verses that were making the song sound kinda weird.
