The Songs : The No-Show

*Finished* 8/06
Music (7-8/06) Words (7-8/06)

I wonder where youíve been
Iím in town, so I came around
to begin
did you go down
were you lost, were you found
did you sin?

You would think that I might learn
feeling old, starting to fold
and get burned
could you be sold
on a lie, and never be told
if I turn?

I could go look for you but I wonít
you could just use the phone but you donít
everyoneís been wonderiní...

Where have you gone (x4)

In the time that Iíve been here
itís a cloud, of memories in doubt
that seem clear
were you without?
did you twist, for a shout
in my ear?

I could just yell at you but I wonít
you could just talk to me but you donít
everyoneís been wonderiní...

Where have you gone (x4)

The scene repeates itself
as I search for someone to take your place
but I know
no one can fill your space
Iíll try your phone again
one more time before I have to go
well it rings and rings and rings and rings
and rings and rings and rings
just another no-show
just another no-show

Where have you gone (x4)

Background:
Lyrics: I came up with the lyrical melody first with no words, and I was quite proud of it. I came up with some words (a variation of the first three bars) mostly so I could remember the melody. It didn't have much to do with anything (i.e., instead of 'to begin', it was 'with your kin' - which is completely off the subject of what the song ended up). The next day, I tried to remember the melody and couldn't. I wrote down the words but couldn't recall how they were supposed to be sung, and it was frustrating as hell. Later that day, without thinking about it, it just came back to me completely at random and all was right with the world. Trying to rearrange the first few lines to make it into something that made sense, I realized what it should be about (perhaps I began it unconsciously). It's hard being let down by someone you love.
Music: Mostly made to fit the lyrics, simple, with some long strums/sustains. Nice little riff groove in the pre-chorus.
