The Songs : Lightning Strikes Twice

I was blinded by your subtleties
caught up in nothing but everything
bruised and confused as to who you are
still I believed you were the best by far

You were determined to leave me uneven
all of my answers could not find a reason
for you
and everything you put me through
my sixth sense... is coming to an end

I should have figured you out the first time around
I was too busy wiping your footprints off the ground
I know I'm probably to blame for pushing you away
how else could I see it when you have nothing to say

You were always honest with me
at least when you weren't lying
my crime, perception to tie you down
these days it seems you're the most-tied around

Recently I have been thinking about you
how I can't seem to forget what I want to
for long
and how it all went so wrong
seven years' time... I had to try again

I should have figured you out the second time around
I was too busy wiping your footprints off the ground
I know I'm probably to blame for pushing you away
how else could I see it when you have nothing to say

I should have known to believe but I refused to see
I was too busy wiping your footprints off of me
I know I'm probably to blame for pushing you away
how else could I see it when you have nothing left to say
nothing left to say
nothing left

Background:
Music: Actually got the "chorus" started before the verses, which came before the bridge... This felt like a short non-jammy song, so it is - maybe around 3:20. From start to finish musically and lyrically this song took about 3 weeks to write.
Lyrics: The title really came first, then the chorus, and the first verse and bridge around the same time. I realized there was an old girlfriend of mine that I dated two separate times that didn't have a song about her. bada bing. Did some minor editing on the last chorus in July 2004. Better ending.
